The hunt
The hunt
Lomba Forest, Central African Republic — “After collecting their shotguns, the hunters set off at dawn. It was the start of the rainy season and the wiry pair trekked through dense undergrowth at pace. It was a struggle a keep up with them. Wearing flip-flops and torn shorts, they followed a forest path beneath the sunlit canopy, guns slung over their shoulders. They would return several hours later, satisfied with their kills - a hornbill and a crowned monkey. Innumerable hunts like this take place daily across the continent. Bushmeat provides a key source of protein; hunting and selling it underpins livelihoods. But fuelled by soaring demand, its commercial trade is decimating the biodiversity of wildlife”
